Rescue Me
Jamie and her husband had been together 7 years, married the last 2 years. She said, “He never put a hand on me until last year. He lied. His behavior changed. He found if he hit, he could control me.” He had a job but quit because half of his check was garnished to satisfy debt owed. She worked; he became a frustrated househusband. The baby would scream; he would get angry and take it out on Jamie. She wanted him to work; he called her selfish. She and the baby moved in with friends. So he would then call her work, go to her work and harass her there. Jamie said, “I quit my job because I was afraid at work. I got a restraining order.”
Jamie then moved to the Mission’s Samaritan Inn. She said, “I loved it there, it was supportive. I met other women going through the same thing. I could talk to staff. It was not just a place to stay, there were resources to help me. It was not pressured. It was loving and warm. I could concentrate and not worry about the stress of what home had been like. And if my husband went there (Samaritan Inn), I knew there would be support to protect us.
He did follow her to Samaritan Inn, refused to leave, staff called police and he was charged with trespassing. Jamie and 2-year-old Kalliana stayed several weeks, then staff helped her make arrangements to move to another city. She has all the tools she needs to have a safe, new start in life.
Jamie said that she has been a Christian for 10 years, but her husband was never serious about it. She loved our chapel messages. She said, “My relationship with the Lord improved. I learned to take time out for God everyday, to pray and go to church.” At her new home, she attends a weekly Bible study. Jamie has been rescued and is now following the Lord, our Savior and Rescuer.
